Assistant Professor of Teacher Education
The University of Southern Maine’s School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) seeks a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor to join its faculty in offering teacher certification in K-12 at the masters and baccalaureate levels. We seek candidates with significant experience in K-12 schools, proficiency based learning and assessment, teacher leadership, and school-university partnerships.

The successful candidate will be fully engaged in the design and delivery of clinical experiences and partnership collaboration for pre-service teacher education candidates. He or she will be expected to contribute to the SEHD’s delivery of teacher education programs and pathways by teaching courses in his or her area of expertise with special preference for expertise in the areas of history or social studies. Additionally, this faculty member will expand our activities as a metropolitan university engaged in teacher education including teacher leadership, school and university partnerships, and building opportunities for professional development in K-12 schools.

The successful candidate will be expected to:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in teacher education.
• Teach undergraduate history or humanities courses to teacher education students.
• Coordinate and supervise the teacher education internship in a partner school district for a cohort of interns.
• Advise graduate and undergraduate students who are preparing to be students.
• Foster collaborative teacher education partnerships with pre K-12 partner school districts.
• Maintain an active record of scholarship in his or her area of expertise.
• Serve as a liaison between the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the Department of Teaching & Learning to ensure the success of the undergraduate teacher preparation pathways.
• Participate in service to the department, School of Education and Human Development, and University including admissions, recruitment, curriculum/assessment development, and committee assignments.
• Engage with the southern Maine community to build a record of professional service that is statewide and national within area of expertise.

Qualifications:
Requirements for the position include an earned doctorate in education, history, social studies, or related field by time of employment, three years of experience in K-12 education, and a record of scholarship commensurate with experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching at a college level, experience teaching social studies methods, experience with online learning environment, experience with K-12 School and University partnerships, and demonstrated commitment to diversity, student success, and standards-based assessment systems.
