To promote and discuss sustainable sources of food, organic gardening, home food production and local community supported agriculture. Food production in America is not as natural as it use to be. In the past two decades, America has reduce the number of farms producing a food supply on a local level and opted to have our food grown in Mexico and other areas. The states that can grow food year round continue to produce certain types of produce and the remaining states experience shortages of fresh produce. The FDA allows produce to be treated with small dosages of chemicals that are not suppose to be harm to humanity in small dosage. Yet we have far higher rates of illnesses that two decades ago. Somehow these chemicals have to have an impact on the development of human cells (depending on a person's genetic composite) over a period of time. Yes, we have to eat, and the solution seems to be organically produce food which cost less to make because it is all natural and cost more at the market. Transportation cost also increase what we paid for food. They are introducing cloned meat into the market and Tyson has refused to distributed cloned meat. Hence, if it is natural, it will be labeled organic and the cost will increase. I am an advocate of home gardening and canning, the cost to produce fresh vegetables at home is far less that you will spent at the local market and if you happen to grow more than you need it avails you the opportunity to support hunger in America by donating to a local shelter, food pantry or church. Local community supported agriculture (CSA) and home gardening will provide a more affordable and a better quality of food in our communities. The best feature about home gardening and local community supported agriculture is that it is an activity that has no age barrier, it teaches our youth how to produce their own food and it allows the elders to contribute to our communities. While it may seem like a lot of work, it is really not which you have think about the benefit.
