Boston Teacher Residency (BTR) has pioneered a model of urban teacher preparation that is designed to carefully recruit and select a diverse cohort of talented individuals who are committed to teaching, and to provide them with an effective, supportive, and affordable pathway to becoming an exceptional educator for Boston's children and families.
Combining a year-long classroom apprenticeship with targeted master’s-level coursework, the program offers much more than just an affordable route into teaching. BTR provides every Teacher Resident with the practical learning, hands-on experience, and ongoing support essential to any successful career in teaching.

JOIN a diverse, dynamic, growing community
Since 2003, we've prepared over 500 teachers who are working together across to the city. We have 11 cohorts of graduates teaching in Boston Public Schools -- roughly 500 BTR trained teachers. 50% of our residents and graduates are teachers of color; 50% of our secondary teachers are math/science educators.
